Description
Summary:Falls are a serious issue for the elderly, potentially causing severe injury or death. Fall risk assessment can help reduce these risks, but most existing studies mainly focus on flat surfaces instead of uneven terrains. This paper proposes a rule-based method using four Time-of-Flight sensors to detect trip-hazard terrain while walking. Ten young people were recruited to walk in four conditions: flat ground, threshold, stair ascending, and stair descending to validate the proposed method. The experimental results demonstrate that the system can detect obstacles with 100% accuracy.
