Summary: | The real-time measurement of vital signs is crucial for evaluating the health status of First Responders in emergency situations. During these operations, vital sings may increase having a significant impact on the cognitive load on First Responders, which can compromise their ability to make rapid and effective decisions. Therefore, this jeopardizes both operational performance and the safety of the responders and victims. Consequently, the effective monitoring of vital signs is essential for managing the increased cognitive load. The principal aim of this work is to provide a comprehensive real-time monitoring system to evaluate the cognitive and physical state of the First Responders when performing several tasks at the same time. To this end, a real-time biosignals monitoring system has been developed and implemented. The system integrates multiple physiological variables, including heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, electrodermal activity, and ocular metrics such as fixations, blinks, gaze speed, and pupil diameter, all measured by biosensors. Additionally, a dual-task virtual environment has been developed to study the impact of such activities on the cognitive load. |
