Summary: | This study evaluates the economic impact and efficacy of the "Vivasight" endobronchial intubation device with an integrated camera compared to traditional double-lumen tubes (DLT) during one-lung ventilation in thoracic surgery. The aim is to assess whether Vivasight remains a viable alternative to DLT, as demonstrated in a previous 2017 study. A thorough literature review and a statistical analysis of data collected from thoracic surgeries performed between March and May 2024 were conducted, focusing on primary outcomes such as intubation time and surgical duration, along with secondary outcomes including lung collapse quality, ease of intubation, and postoperative complications. Results indicate that, although Vivasight does not require verification controls, it prolongs average surgical duration and intubation time compared to the 2017 study. No significant differences in postoperative complications like cough and sore throat were found; however, notable reductions in dysphonia, ease of intubation and improved lung collapse, were associated with Vivasight. Economically, Vivasight demonstrates lower costs compared to conventional DLT with two bronchoscopy controls, while remaining comparable to DLT with a single bronchoscopy control. Overall, Vivasight represents a valid alternative from a clinical point of view and effectively standardizes intubation procedure costs. |
