Summary:The subject of engineering faculty and engineering graduate shortage is examined in the irrelation to the following factors: engineerings alaries and percent yearly increases therein, national cost of living index, national inventiveness, state of economy, export/import volume ratio, and national gross national product. Comparative examples a recited froin other industrialized countries. The social esteem engineers and engineering faculty areheldin, as compared to other professionals such as lawyers and medical doctors, may also have an underlying impact on the lack of societal pressure to reverse such declining trends. The study is concluded with a discussion of other relative effects of retirement benefits/pensions, wage busting, and finallist of practical recommendations for consideration and adoption at state and national leve1 .
