Summary:This paper deals with the effects of changing environments on Midwest ISO operations. The evolution of the Midwest ISO in response to marketplace and regulatory influences. The MISO operation deals with tariff administration, scheduling, reliability coordination, long-term regional planning. The initial market operations (Midwest market initiative) is currently planned to include the existing MISO and SPP footprints. A day ahead as well as hourly (real-time) energy market will be operated at that time. In this paper the critical design features of joint and common market, SMD implementation is also discussed.
