Generation of light carrying orbital angular momentum via induced coherence grating in cold atom

Light carrying orbital angular momentum is generated via an electromagnetically induced Zeeman coherence grating in cold cesium atoms. This constitutes a first step towards the processing of quantum information encoded in a multidimensional state space.
