Description
Summary:Location awareness is expected to acquire the mandatory functionality in many future network oriented services. As the direct consequence, the location-based services (IBS) emerge as the perspective group of new telecommunication services. However, the full potential of IBS still cannot be explored due to so far unsolved problem of specified positioning performance. While a number of positioning methods already exist, no one can be chosen as the basic method due to their natural limitations. Here, the role of telecommunications network in advanced positioning methods is discussed, offering a new insight into the problem. Based on currently available mobile communications specifications, network-supported positioning method augmentations are proposed that are completely capable of solving the problem of specified positioning performance. Discussion presented here leads to the conclusion that successful IBS development should take the advantage of synergy between latest telecommunications technology and satellite positioning methods.
