Summary: | The performance of a large area avalanche photodiode (LAAPD) has been investigated for x-ray and visible light detection as a function of temperature. Energy resolution was found to improve significantly with decreasing temperature down to 0/spl deg/C and at a much slower rate below that value, achieving 9.2% for 5.9 keV X-rays at -40/spl deg/C and a gain of 70. Gain drift of -4.2% per /spl deg/C at 1700 V bias was obtained for 5.9 keV X-rays and similar values were obtained for visible-light. |
