Femtosecond mode-locking of a ytterbium-doped fiber laser using a carbon-nanotube-based mode-locker with ultra-wide absorption band

We demonstrate the first mode-locked femtosecond ytterbium-doped fiber laser using a carbon-nanotube-based mode-locker at 1 /spl mu/m wavelength regime. The laser produces nearly transform-limited hyperbolic-secant pulse with 180 fs pulse width at a repetition rate of 23.3 MHz.
