Description
Summary:This paper presents the modeling of communication delays in order to improve the design of networked supervisory and control systems (NSCS) based on CORBA. Communication delays are one of the primary sources for the performance deterioration of NSCS. Therefore, the modeling and simulation of communication delays upon the connection technology in use (e.g., Ethernet networks) are a must. A statistical model is proposed on the basis of autocorrelation of LRD that is imposed by the bursty behavior of the network traffic. In these cases, self-similar processes are used with the Hurst coefficient. The Pareto distribution function performs the best characterization of the LRD characteristics and the empiric distribution of the analyzed data. The implemented simulator is complemented with a self-similar samples generator using fractional Gaussian noise method
