Description
Summary:Abstract-The possible introduction of changeable control memories in fourth-generation computers may color the manner in which programming systems are designed and implemented. With this type of machine, we will be able to implement varieties of instruction sets by writing microprograms to interpret them. The trade-offs involved in deciding what part of a system is to be handled by the hardware and what part is to be handled by software will provide a challenge for future systems designers and implementers.
