Summary: | Electric utilities in the United States utilize various linear programming techniques to achieve optimal power flow. The authors extend one such technique of linear programming based optimization for optimal power flow. Constraints for the slack bus are introduced and all branch and link flows are taken into account. This automatically puts each bus in the same flow state, thereby optimizing the entire system. Results show that a 220 kV five-bus system convergence within one iteration was achieved with a considerable reduction in CPU time. The technique has been recommended to Florida Power and Light Company's Power System Control Division and has proved successful for a 15 bus system using real-time data.< > |
