An 8-channel, head preamplifier for combination magnetoresistive read elements and inductive write elements

A preamp IC that supports the first reported OEM (original equipment manufacturer) production use of magnetoresistive (MR) read-sense elements or heads in a rigid magnetic disk drive is described. Signal amplitudes, and therefore signal-to-noise ratios, are superior to those obtainable from previous...

Description
Summary:A preamp IC that supports the first reported OEM (original equipment manufacturer) production use of magnetoresistive (MR) read-sense elements or heads in a rigid magnetic disk drive is described. Signal amplitudes, and therefore signal-to-noise ratios, are superior to those obtainable from previous inductive sense techniques at equivalent fly heights, magnet density, and linear velocities. The IC contains all required analog and digital functions for a complete read/write preamplifier.< >
