Description
Summary:A motion estimation algorithm is described, Initial estimates are obtained by block matching. Regularization is anisotropic, controlled by a confidence measure which combines residual matching error and its variance, and is intended to smooth homogenous regions and to avoid smoothing over motion boundaries. This algorithm, initially conceived for video images, is applied to echocardiograms and magnetic resonance images. Non-rigid motion is correctly estimated and motion discontinuities are preserved. Possible improvements are outlined
