Summary: | In mobile ad hoc networks, a multihop route breaks mainly because of the failure of a link or adjacent links caused by relative movement of one or more nodes, or malfunction and power depletion of one node. When this happens, route repair is typically performed to establish a new route. Such route repair mechanism causes high control overhead and long packet delay. In this paper, a new idea on local route repair (LRR) mechanism that the repair is confined to the vicinity of the broken link is proposed to decrease the reaction time of recovery and the overhead of route maintenance. Simulation results show that our LRR strategy leads to significant performance improvement |
