Summary: | Previous simulation studies have shown that providing a simple priority to short-flows in Internet routers can dramatically reduce their mean delay while having little impact on the long-flows which carry the bulk of Internet traffic. In this paper, we present simple fluid models which can be used to quantify this observation. We carry out a connection-level analysis taking into account file arrivals and departures, while ignoring the packet level effects. The modelling assumptions are justified using detailed packet-level simulations presented in a longer version of this paper |
