Bessy Reaches Full Scale Operation

The Berlin Storage Ring for Synchrotron Radiation (BESSY) 1,2,3 is now running in routine operation with stored currents of 600 mA (multi-bunch operation) with lifetimes of 3 h (increasing to 6 h at lower currents). The beam cross sections at the source points are σ X = 0.2 mm and σ Z = 0.5 mm at 60...

Description
Summary:The Berlin Storage Ring for Synchrotron Radiation (BESSY) 1,2,3 is now running in routine operation with stored currents of 600 mA (multi-bunch operation) with lifetimes of 3 h (increasing to 6 h at lower currents). The beam cross sections at the source points are σ X = 0.2 mm and σ Z = 0.5 mm at 600 mA and σ X = 0.2 mm and σ Z = 0.15 mm at 10 mA. Injection rates are higher than 0.5 A/min. 26 experimental stations equipped with 16 monochromators are in operation. Additional information is given about single bunch operation, current limits and energy calibration of the electron beam by spin resonance depolarisation.
