description Since the emergence of Ethernet PONs (EPONs) several mechanisms have been proposed aiming to enhance the performance of traffic multiplexing and upstream channel arbitration. Efficient resource utilization should feature several properties including among others support for multiple service classes, Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation (DBA) for services with varying (in time) capacity demand and bounded QoS parameters for services with real-time requirements. In this paper we propose a new mechanism which presents the above features and targets an optimal trade-off between EPON upstream channel utilization and strict delay and jitter bounds for real time traffic.
