Summary:Significant efforts are invested in the miniaturization of antennas. However size (volume) reduction is not by itself the goal if it comes at the expense of bandwidth reduction. This is why the correct goal in the process of miniaturization is the maximization of the volume occupancy, which is defined as the lowest Q-factor achievable within a given volume. This paper describes a process and first steps results in the development of an efficient process to maximize the volume occupancy. The process starts from the very basic definitions of the Q-factor, and volume occupancy and uses as the computational engine the FIT, or finite integration technique.
