Propagation of sub-THz acoustic nano-pulses in water and ice

We experimentally demonstrate that acoustic-phonon attenuation in water described by a classic continuum-elastic model fails for sub-THz acoustic frequencies. A dynamic measurement technique for ice-water interface position with a ~10nm resolution will also be presented.
