A Design Concept for a 60 GHz Wireless In-Flight Entertainment System

Summary: | Due to the extremely high user density in in-flight entertainment (IFE) systems, the required sum data rate is in the order of several Gbit/s, which can not be provided by existing standard wireless systems. To achieve such high data rates, the 60 GHz frequency band is very well suited due to its specific advantages. In this paper, a design concept for a cellular-based wireless IFE system is presented. Furthermore, the results of system simulations using measured 60 GHz in-cabin wireless channels are shown. |
