Description
Summary:Effective cooling is of paramount importance for axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM) machines due to their high power density. This paper presents a computational investigation on the effect of variation in some geometric parameters, (running clearance, rotor groove depth and rotational speed), on the cooling effectiveness of an AFPM machine. The numerical model used has been validated by comparison with a small test rig and the basic flow pattern inside the generator has been described.
