Sensitivity of 3p-3s soft-X-ray lasing in neon-like titanium to the prepulse level

In this work, we report on an experimental optimization of the prepulse conditions for high-gain lasing on the 32.6-nm, 3p-3s, J=0-1 transition in neon-like titanium (Z=22) at an irradiance of about 5 E 10/sup 12/ W/cm/sup 2/.
