Miniaturized composite right/left-handed coplanar waveguide antenna for dual-frequency operation

Description
Summary:In this paper, a novel dual-band planar antenna based on the zeroth order resonator is presented. The key component of the antenna is the composite right/left-handed (CRLH) coplanar waveguide (CPW), which consists of series interdigital capacitors (IDCs) and shunt short-circuited stub inductors (SSIs). By relaxing the balance condition for the CRLH CPW structure, the proposed antenna can operate at the two zeroth order modes resulting in the desired dual-band characteristics. Using only three CRLH CPW unit cells, a miniaturized dual-band antenna is proposed and demonstrated to have similar input impedances, radiation patterns, and gains within the two bands.
