Summary: | With the able guest editorship of Dr. Donald McNeal, we feature Rehabilitation Engineering and contributions to devices for disabled people. In addition to a look at the current state of the art in wheelchair design, non-vocal communication, mobility aids for the blind, myoelectric prostheses, and environmental control and robotic manipulation aids, Marjorie Linvill's discussion of the economics of aiding disabled people should be enlightening. Over and above the humanitarian aspects, bringing the disabled back to the job market makes good economic sense. In addition to our theme section, we feature one of the top papers from the 4th EMBS Conference, held this year in Philadelphia. In this issue, we reprint a paper on modeling of the arterial system by Dr. Robert Cox; in future issues, we'll feature more papers from the Conference as well as other submitted papers. |
