Summary: | This paper describes the development of an efficient braking system suitable for three-phase induction motor drives specially driving loads of nonoverhauling type. The method incorporates a combination of three braking methods in four stages according to the speed range at which the respective methods are most effective, with the result of a smooth and efficient braking. First, capacitor self-excitation is applied in stages followed by magnetic braking by double short circuiting and DC injection. Theoretical and experimental results for determining different parameters useful for designing the braking scheme are provided. Lastly, a microprocessor has been used for proper incorporation of different braking schemes. A dual switching scheme has improved the reliability of the scheme. |
