Summary: | The paper proposes a methodology to solve wasteful power dissipation problems in the home network. To do so, we define and implement the Energy-aware Framework (EAF) to manage and control various Consumer Electronic (CE) devices operated throughout the home. The proposed framework is composed of a power management scheme to control power consumptions of devices based on Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) according to the classified service categories, but also helps to achieve control over various Energy-aware Control Elements (ECEs) that are minimum controllable resource units. It also includes a power management mechanism using an Energy-aware Plug and Play protocol (EPnP) to control and manage various ECEs and provides an open API for managing, controlling and monitoring the power control status of a designated device and controlling power levels from the various service applications in the home environments. |
