Description
Summary:One of the most important aspects of wireless sensor networks applications is the network lifetime. A possibility of prolonging lifetime is to turn off some sensors, especially in dense deployed networks with high redundancy. However, to keep the application effectiveness a certain amount of coverage is needed. The coverage is usually quantized by various metrics. In this paper we propose a scalable metric to evaluate in a distributive manner the coverage in dense deployed video-based wireless sensor networks. It allows qualifying the coverage efficiency especially in case of surveillance applications. Metric definition is based on video-sensors field-of-view and it relays on network clustering infrastructure. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate this approach.
