Design of suspended AlGaAs waveguides for tunable difference frequency generation in mid-IR

A birefringent phase-matching scheme for difference frequency generation in a slotted air-clad waveguide with tunable gap width is proposed and theoretically analyzed. Tunability of 300 cm -1 and efficiency of 200 W -1 cm -2 is predicted.
