New equalization approach for maximizing data rate of discrete multi tone systems

Summary: | This paper proposes a new time domain equalizer (TEQ) filter bank for discrete multi-tone (DMT) systems. This filter bank can be used along with the DMT systems based on the discrete Fourier transform, which will be called (DFT-DMT) systems. The paper presents also an alternative implementation for DMT systems with the discrete cosine transform, called the DCT-DMT implementation, and an investigation of the performance of TEQ with this implementation. Throughout the paper, the proposed system will be referred to as the DCT-DMTTEQ system. In the proposed equalizer filter bank, a different finite impulse response (FIR) TEQ is designed for each tone. The results in this paper show that employing the proposed DCT-DMT-TEQ system can provide a higher signal to noise ratio (SNR) in each subchannel, and achieve a higher bit rate. |
