A study of state variable participation in nonlinear limit-cycle behavior

In this paper we analyze nonlinear oscillations that arise in a simple single-generator, single-load power system. Specifically we study how state variables affect limit cycle behavior. Description
Summary:In this paper we analyze nonlinear oscillations that arise in a simple single-generator, single-load power system. Specifically we study how state variables affect limit cycle behavior. To this end, we study participation factors of a linearized system at the point of Hopf-bifurcation. We extend this to operating conditions away from the the bifurcation point through the application of a transformation that maps the limit cycle to a point. Knowledge of the state variables participations will increase our understanding of the problem and enable a more precise control of the phenomenon.
