Summary: | In this paper a review is made of the different analysis and design techniques that can be used in modern electrical machine design, and references them to the developing area of hybrid vehicle drives. These machines are characterized by high transient torque requirement, compactness and forced cooling. While rare-earth magnet machines are commonly used in these applications, there is an increasing interest in motors without magnets. An example is made of the published Toyota Prius permanent-magnet machine specification. An alternative induction motor design is addressed. |
