In this research work acoustic analysis for one pair of non-emphatic/emphatic pairs (namely, /t/ and /t ? /) of Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) is carried out. Area function is computed for each inspected phoneme in the carrying utterance. Area function shows clear indication of dissimilarity between the empathic phoneme and its non-emphatic counterparts with respect to the vocal tract back area while uttering the phoneme.
