description | Emphatic phonemes are a very important subset of Semitic language's consonants such as Arabic language. These phonemes are not easy to pronounce especially for non-native Arabic speakers and for many less-educated Arabs. In Arabic language all emphatic phonemes have their own non-emphatic counterparts that differ only in the emphaticness properly existence. In this research work acoustic analysis for one pair of non-emphatic/emphatic pairs (namely, /t/ and /t ? /) of Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) is carried out. Area function is computed for each inspected phoneme in the carrying utterance. Area function shows clear indication of dissimilarity between the empathic phoneme and its non-emphatic counterparts with respect to the vocal tract back area while uttering the phoneme. |
