Description
Summary:As the Internet becomes an essential tool for our daily activities, Web service, a new form of software technology to use remote services, is emerging. Web Services receive significant research recently from both academia and industry due to its broad applications and flexible architecture. Usually they are accessible through standard internet protocols like HTTP, but within mobile communication networks it is quite inefficient. The Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) provides protocols optimized for packet oriented communication over mobile links. The interconnection to existing HTTP Web Services is achieved by the use of a WAP gateway. We propose in this paper to evaluate the performance of fixed and mobile web services in a mobile environment by using the formalism of the Petri nets. Numerical results are given for considered performance measures.
