Summary: | The wind power generation system connected to DC system, such as the DC transmission from the offshore generators or the battery charging system, has been investigated. The proposed system uses induction generator (IG) with the voltage source converter (VSC) and the diode rectifier in parallel to reduce the cost of the system. Sometimes a permanent magnet type synchronous generator (PMSG) is installed and the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) ability is its advantage. The cost of IG is much lower than SG with permanent magnets and is possible to have the MPPT control by using VSC for excitation. We also propose to minimize the reactive power consumption of IG to decrease the rating of the VSC. The effectiveness of the proposed control for the wind power generation system was verified by the simulation. |
