Description
Summary:Currently, prominent 4G wireless networking technologies receive increasing attention from the research community. Represented by 3GPP LTE and IEEE 802.16 cellular standards, they support both stationary and mobile users. Due to the limited power budget of the latter, the energy efficient behavior is becoming of primary importance. In order to save power and maximize battery lifetime (without recharging) of battery-driven mobile devices, either 4G cellular standard defines a power saving mode. It is termed Discontinuous Reception (DRX) by 3GPP LTE and Sleep Mode by IEEE 802.16. In this paper, we compare energy efficient properties of the two modes when users receive various traffic.
