Description
Summary:This paper presents symmetrical component frame power system models for smart grid application. The improvements in power system models are introduced by using dummy lines and dummy nodes in handling multi-phase feeders, incorporation of a centre-tapped transformer loads and the inclusion of weather-related DER models. The dummy lines and dummy nodes approach converted the two-phase and single-phase line segments into virtual three-phase lines and hence eliminate the need to use forward/backward method in handle multi-phase laterals. The DER models that have been considered are cogeneration, photovoltaic (PV) and wind turbine generation (WTG). These improvements are suitable for steady-state analysis application with a more comprehensive modeling of ADS and smart grid. Sample testing of the models on fault analysis, load flow analysis and DER impact study is presented to illustrate the proposed models effectiveness and performance improvement.
