Description
Summary:The residential gateway (RG) is a critical element in offering residential broadband services. An RG provides the interface between customer premise equipment (CPE) and the network provider's residential access network. This paper examines the impact of two broadband services on RG functionality: high speed data service and video service. Sample protocol architectures capable of supporting these services are analyzed to assess the types of RG functionality required. Based on this work, it is concluded that RG functionality should be viewed as a strategic issue for companies offering broadband services.
