MEMS tunable 1550-nm high contrast grating VCSEL

We report monolithic, tunable 1550-nm HCG-VCSELs with 16.5 nm continuous mechanical tuning. 7.5 GHz -3dB bandwidth, room-temperature CW power >;3.3 mW, 80 Gbps QPSK and 40-Gbps DPSK fiber transmission under external modulation are demonstrated.
