Higher-order-mode erbium-doped fiber amplifiers

Higher order modes for large-mode-area, high power fiber amplifiers are reviewed. Results from amplification of both CW and nanosecond pulsed signals in Er-doped HOM fibers with effective areas as large as 4000 μm 2 are presented.
