Description
Summary:Todays power system is in a transformation phase towards a Smart Grid due to the integration of renewables and availability of advanced information technologies allowing it to be controlled in a more optimized way. The design, implementation, and validation of corresponding applications and functions can be a very complex task. The usage of common rules and domain standards can support this process but a formalized design approach is missing today. Therefore, the main aim of this paper is to analyze and discuss the current state of practice in designing Smart Grids applications and to identify open gaps. Moreover, important requirements for the definition of a common application modeling language are discussed and a first formalized approach is presented.
