Summary: | This paper presents a new mechanism to reduce the long resource re-establishment latency and large signalling overhead imposed by the RSVP operation in mobile networks. The proposed scheme architecture comprises of a multi-layer mobility anchor point (MAP) in the Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6) and the pre-configured RSVP tunnel between them. While having the multi-layer MAP can localise mobility management and resource re-establishment processes to the hierarchically distributed sub-domains, resulting in a decrease in the amount of signalling cost, exploiting the pre-configured RSVP tunnel between two level MAP can alleviate the long resource re-establishment latency, significantly. The analytical framework was developed to make comparisons of the signalling overhead and resource reservation latency between the proposed scheme and RSVPMobility Proxy (RSVP-MP) as a baseline protocol. The numerical results obtained show the superiority of the proposed scheme. |
