Description
Summary:Summary form only given, as follows. Experiments have been performed in which a new limitation in the operation of the plasma opening switch (POS) has been observed and partially quantified. 'Mis limitation is dependent on electron current which flows not on the cathode, but rather in vacuum during the time the switch is attempting to open. Recognition of this limitation allows approximate design relations to be determined for the ratio of the upstream vacuum impedance of the driving circuit, to the combined impedance of the POS and load. Experimental data showing the effect of vacuum flowing electrons on POS operation will be presented and discussed.
