Description
Summary:Multi-dimensional-coded modulation approaches the nonlinear Shannon limit due to its high SNR sensitivity and large Euclidean distance between multi-dimensional symbols. It also eliminates phase ambiguity to avoid cycle slips. In this paper, we review the design principles of bit-interleaved-coded modulation with multi-dimensional mapping, and its performance in long-haul transmission experiments with different spectral efficiencies in both dispersion managed and dispersion unmanaged fiber optic systems.
