Summary: | Anemia is a common complication of the end-stage renal disease (ESRD) that is efficiently treated by the administration of recombinant human erythropoietin (EPO). While a low-dose EPO cannot treat the anemia effectively, an excessive EPO dose may increase the risk of serious heart problems and blood clots. Therefore, the optimal control of EPO administration is of great importance in the treatment of anemia. In this work, a radial basis function (RBF) method is introduced and successfully applied to the EPO drug dosing problem. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the method for the optimal control of EPO administration in the anemia of hemodialysis patients. |
