Description
Summary:This paper describes development and experience in modern education in sustainable energy. Up-to-date knowledge from education-research institutions was used to develop of comprehensive online education resources for lifelong learning of professionals from industry and secondary schools' teachers. Nine distance learning modules that cover five thematic fields in sustainable energy were developed. The topics were chosen by considering real knowledge/education needs of the professionals and teachers. To facilitate the complete learning experience, which goes beyond offering only the theory, many virtual experiments and some remote experiments were integrated in the modules. The learning material is designed in such form that it supports the learner at self-learning (by interactive elements in the learning material) and at the self-evaluation of gained knowledge (by automatically assessed e-tests). The modules are available within a modern and user-friendly learning management system (online learning portal) which was especially adapted to support remote and virtual experiments. Three learning modules developed at three different universities are outlined in the paper: (1) Solar Electricity - From Solar cell to system; (2) Power electronics for electric cars, and (3) Drivetrain and combined energy storage system for electric hybrid vehicle.
