Summary: | Unrepeatered transmission of a single-channel, 2.5 Gbit/s signal is demonstrated over 453 km without using remote optically pumped amplifiers. An efficient SBS suppression scheme and chromatic dispersion compensation enable the launch of a+30 dBm signal into the fibre while Raman distributed preamplification is used at the receive side. Raman limitation induced by signal and pump depletion is pointed out. |
