Description
Summary:Although many kinds of Cooperative Collision Warning (CCW) algorithms and systems for road safety were proposed in order to prevent accidents in past years, a feasible CCW system has not yet been developed and verified, based on an established standard of IEEE 802.11p/wireless access in vehicular environments (WAVE) and the SAE J2735 message sets. In this paper, we propose a integrated CCW system built around the SAE J2735 Basic Safety Message (BSM) over Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communications through IEEE 802.11p/WAVE. The proposed integrated CCW system includes three crash counter-measure functions: Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Change Warning (LCW), and Intersection Collision Warning (ICW). The proposed system alters its crash countermeasure function depending on road and traffic situations. Performance evaluation is made by a Human-Interactive Hardware-In-the-Loop Simulation (HI2LS) framework and the results prove the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed integrated CCW system in a wide range of road and traffic conditions.
