Experimental Production of a Real-Scale REBCO Magnet Aimed at Its Application to Maglev

We fabricated a REBCO magnet that demonstrates a magnetomotive force of 700 kA above 30 K. This magnet is comparable to the low temperature superconducting (LTS) on-board magnet of the maglev with respect to coil size (racetrack-shaped, 1070 mm wide, 500 mm high) and magnetomotive force. The REBCO m...

Description
Summary:We fabricated a REBCO magnet that demonstrates a magnetomotive force of 700 kA above 30 K. This magnet is comparable to the low temperature superconducting (LTS) on-board magnet of the maglev with respect to coil size (racetrack-shaped, 1070 mm wide, 500 mm high) and magnetomotive force. The REBCO magnet does not have a radiation shield and is cooled by a single-stage Gifford-McMahon (GM) cryocooler. A 6-mm-wide coated conductor (SuperPower Inc. SCS6050-AP) is used for the coil winding. The number of turns and the wire length are 2800 and approximately 7600 m, respectively. In this coil fabrication, we utilized thermoplastic resin instead of epoxy impregnation. The REBCO magnet was excited at 35 K, and a magnetomotive force of 700 kA was successfully achieved. In addition, a magnetomotive force of 750 kA was also achieved at 32 K.
